NTRODUCTION ABOUT FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION

FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION is a combination of Flurbiprofen and Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) which belongs to the group of medicines called NSAIDs and Eye lubricants. It is used to manage narrowing of pupil (black hole on the centre of the eye) during eye surgery (cataract removal) and post-surgical inflammation of eyes.

FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION is also used to manage Pseudophakic Cystoid macular edema (swelling of part of eye called macula with fluid due to complication of cataract surgery), eye pain associated with surgery and Post operative dry eye.

FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION is not recommended for use if you have viral eye infection or have a tendency to bleed. Contact your doctor before using it.

FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION is not recommended for use in third trimester of pregnancy and inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding before using this medicine.

The most common side effects of using FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION are burning or stinging sensations, eye irritation or discomfort. Contact your physician if any of the symptoms worsen.

USES OF FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION

Manage:

  • Prevent narrowing of pupil during eye surgery (cataract removal)
  • Post-surgical inflammation of eyes
  • Pseudophakic cystoid macular edema

  • Post operative dry eye

HOW FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION WORKS

Flurbiprofen present in the FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION works by stopping the pupil (inner part of the eye) from narrowing. Thus, it makes it easy for a doctor to check the eye during surgery or changing the lens and also blocks the release of certain chemicals called prostaglandins that cause pain, inflammation and irritation in the eye. While Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is an Eye lubricant used to reduce dryness and soreness irritation. It also helps to manage damage to the eye in certain eye diseases.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Instil FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION into the eye as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. It is for ophthalmic use only. FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION is normally instilled by your doctor. The doctor will instil the drops in your eye.

But if you are putting the eye drops in yourself, then wash your hands, tilt your head back and look at the ceiling. Gently pull the lower eyelid down until there is a small pocket. Turn the bottle upside down and squeeze it to release drop into the affected eye and close your eye for 30 seconds. Do not touch tip of container to any surface to avoid contamination.

SIDE EFFECTS OF FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION

COMMON

RARE

Stop using FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • severe eye irritation or burning
  • headache or eye pain
  • vision changes or continued redness of eye

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Use with Caution

Do not drive or operate any machines if you have blurred vision after using FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION.

ALLERGY

Contraindicated

Do not use FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION if you are allergic to Flurbiprofen and Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) or other similar medicines, aspirin or to other ingredients of this medicine.

OTHERS

FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION is not recommended for use, if you:

  • have viral eye infection
  • have a tendency to bleed

Before using FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION, inform your physician if you:

  • have any history of eye surgery
  • have poor wound healing
  • are wearing contact lens

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Tell your doctor if you are applying or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription, vitamin supplement or herbal products.

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. If you have placed too many drops in your eye(s), wash your eye(s) with clean water. Apply your next dose at the normal time.

Q: What precautions have to be taken while using FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION?

A: FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION is used 2 hours before the surgery. It should be used only after consulting with the doctor, as it contains the inactive ingredients which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Consult your physician if you have any history of eye surgery.

Q: Can I use another eye drops along with FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION?

A: Other eye medicine should not usually be used with FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION. However, if your doctor recommends using FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION with another eye medicine, leave at least 5 minutes between putting in FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION and the other medicine.

Q: What if I forget to use FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION?

A: If you forget to use FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION, you should take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose and if a drop misses your eye, try again.

Q: Can I wear contact lens while using FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION?

A: FLUR OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION contains benzalkonium chloride may be absorbed by soft contact lenses and may change the colour of the contact lenses. You should remove contact lenses before using this medicine and put them back 15 minutes afterwards.  Benzalkonium chloride may also cause eye irritation, especially if you have dry eyes or disorders of the cornea (the clear layer at the front of the eye). If you feel abnormal eye sensation, stinging or pain in the eye after using this medicine, contact your doctor.
